This week has been pretty unbelievable politically.

It started with Donald Trump saying Russia had been “fine” on Ukraine and “hadn’t been doing much.” Then his envoy, Steve Witkoff, sat directly opposite Vladimir Putin and described him as a “humanitarian.” Just hours later, Kyiv was being hit by Russian missiles again.

Rather than simply waking up the next morning and making a video telling you what I thought about all of this, I decided to do something a little different.

I picked up the phone and called as many Americans as I could here in Kyiv. People who have voted for Trump, people with connections to the MAGA world, and American journalists who I thought could offer some really interesting perspectives on what is happening back home.

American politics feels like it’s going through an extraordinary moment right now, and I thought it might be much more interesting to hear from Americans themselves, particularly those who are here witnessing this war firsthand.

I really hope you find these conversations as interesting as I did.
