Shaun Pinner
Shaun Pinner is a journalist, author, and public speaker reporting permanently from Ukraine. He writes for British outlets including London Loves Business and is a recipient of Ukraine’s Order of Courage for selfless acts in defence of Ukrainian sovereignty.
Born near Watford, England, Pinner is a husband and father who now lives and works in Ukraine. His journalism focuses on the war in Ukraine, its civilian impact, leadership under pressure, and the long-term consequences of conflict, reported from the ground and informed by lived experience rather than distant commentary.
Before transitioning into full-time journalism, Pinner served for nine years with the British Army’s Royal Anglian Regiment, including deployment with the United Nations in Bosnia. In 2018, after settling in Ukraine, he joined the Ukrainian Armed Forces as the country rebuilt its military following Russia’s illegal annexation of Crimea.
When Russia launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022, Pinner was in Mariupol and witnessed the siege first-hand. He was captured while attempting to escape the city and later subjected to imprisonment and a death sentence by Russian proxy authorities. His experiences are documented in his book Live. Fight. Survive.
Since his release in a prisoner exchange, Pinner has focused on journalism, analysis, and public-facing media, contributing to international outlets and briefing institutions on modern warfare, while continuing to report from Ukraine.
